As some researchs suggest this dish could have been originated a 500 years ago, as it comes from Genoese colonies that have been in Cádiz since the 13th century. Is considered that the origins of Shrimp Cakes are not in Panizas (Another famous dish from Cádiz) but in the farinata process, this both recipes comes from Genoa.
First shrimp cakes are estimated to be made with vegetables. This isn't strange, as in Gibraltar there were cakes being already made with chards. It's possible that at some point between the 16th and 17th centuries, shrimps were added to the recipe as a substitute for the vegetables.
Ingredients
- 125 g. of fresh shrimps.
- A big spring onion, or two small ones.
- 100 g, of wheat flour.
- 100 g of chickpea flour.
- Some fresh parsley.
- 250 ml of cold water.
- Olive oil to use for frying.
- Salt.
Cooking Process:
1. We start by making the base. For that, we put the two flours on a bowl.

3. At last, we add the salt, the shrimps and the water and mix everything until we get a quite liquid mixture.
4. We let it rest on the fridge for 30 minutes or an hour. You can add more water if necessary.
5. We prepare a frying pan with oil and let it get hot. We add a spoon of the mixture, extending the base carefully,
